Here at CLX we are what is known as a System Integrator, which means we build custom gaming PCs from readily available components and offer flexible setups that can be upgraded or adapted down the road.

October 1st, 2021; Cory Wells from Hardcore Gamer shares with the world his review of a unique CLX Scarab. So why was it important to clarify the difference between a System Manufacturer and a System Integrator? Well Cory’s unique CLX Scarab was an AMD focused build, and while AMD produces incredible components, not everyone is a die-hard AMD enthusiast. This CLX Scarab contained a liquid-cooled AMD RX 6900XT and AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, components perfectly capable of being swapped when built by a system integrator.

If you were looking at building an AMD focused system with CLX, you could just as easily select different AMD options, and if you wanted to use Intel, Nvidia, etc. Those are also perfectly viable alternatives. This is not always the case and is actually fairly rare for a system manufacturer. With that explained, let’s take a look at this build’s specs:

· Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X

· Motherboard: Gigabyte AORUS X570 Pro

· RAM: G.Skill 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4 3600 MHZ

· GPU: AMD RX 6900XT

· Cooling: CLX Quench 120 Closed Liquid Cooler

· Chassis: Phanteks Eclipse P200

· Chassis Fans: 6 CLX RGBs

· Power Supply: EVGA 1000 G5

It’s safe to say we changed things up with this build, an enthusiast style system is nothing new of course but for reviews we typically try to provide a balanced configuration. The one-sided nature of this build comes across in Hardcore Gamer’s review with some glaring instances that don’t often show up on our builds. Despite having a double water-cooled AIO setup we’re able to see that the AMD GPU+CPU combo runs slightly hotter than a similar setup with alternative components. Due to this increase in temperature, they also saw slightly elevated noise from the fans, a component we regularly regard as nearly silent in a standard configuration.

With that said this gaming PC would be more than sufficient for 1440p gaming even now, a year later. Performance metrics are always a bit of a toss-up for us, but Cory and Hardcore Gamers have an excellent description and provide good insight on their experience; check that out on their article here. Despite the AMD Radeon software giving them issues; it’s important to note there’s been a year of progress on improvements in that aspect. We can’t guarantee AMD has solved everything, but it’s likely a safe bet the experience will have improved.

While liquid-cooling a GPU is nothing new, and even a customization option we offer via the CLX Foundry Temper available on the CLX Ra chassis. The liquid-cooler on this build’s AMD RX 6900 XT was a unique AIO-style system designed for the card. This unique solution is no longer available, but we’re glad to see it preserved in this particular review.

Whether you’re an AMD enthusiast or looking for a more distinct setup of your own we can design and build a PC just the way you want it!
