These days that’s a fairly common and easily attainable goal; 2021 aka the component drought however was not really having it.

At the time we sent Christian a custom CLX Scarab equipped with a whopping GTX 1660 Super. Don’t get me wrong, the 1660 Super was an incredible card in terms of price to power and will still perform today. However, it’s not an RTX series GPU and lacks some of the more modern features, luckily the geniuses over at Nvidia have made a lot of these features backwards compatible by now. While the GTX series of cards lack an NVENC chipset, they can still use the encoder by splitting some of the main processer of the GPU to handling that task. This is important to note as Christian mentions using this system primarily for streaming.

Now back to the system, the CLX Scarab is traditionally a microATX gaming PC that comes in a few themes/designs and can be customized further. While the article notes a concern about possible airflow issues, we’ve since then updated our chassis options to include cases with better airflow. Moving on they take a look at the overall build of the Scarab including its structure and wiring management. Unsurprisingly to us things are looking great, Scarab is typically our smallest system and while this aids in robustness it makes cable management significantly more difficult. Our expert builders have built a few Scarabs by now and always do an incredible job with making what seems like a football field of wiring practically disappear.

Drivers are a fickle beast sometimes. We always try to ensure that a system ships ready to play meaning you should be able to unbox it, plug your peripherals and go. Rarely a component can receive a major update between the time we box a system, and it reaches a customer doorstep. While this wasn’t an issue in this instance, we think it’s a safe call to mention the possibility. It’s always great to hear when a customer or reviewer has an impeccable experience with their system!

This article closes out with Christian recapping his usage and experience with the system giving the Scarab a gracious score of 8.5/10.
