But now that we’ve got your attention if you’re looking at getting a brand new fully custom gaming pc, you’ve just gotten one, or are looking to maintain your existing build this should help. When it comes to PC gaming we often hear about the importance of speeds and capacity, having enough RAM, the best graphics cards, the fastest processors, etc. But at the end of the day these incredible pieces of technology can be halted and defeated by the simplest of things, dust.

Dust is an enemy of electronics for a multitude of reasons, it can be prone to carrying static charge which can damage components. Also, dust is insulative meaning it will trap heat into the components it rests on, causing them to have lesser performance, or even potentially break due to overheating. Fortunately, getting rid of dust in your PC is a simple process, though there are some things to keep in mind. Computers are absolutely loaded with nooks and crannies, between capacitors and chips on the motherboard, tiny gaps in radiators on the GPU and CPU coolers, inside the fan motors and more.

While wiping the system down with a dry cloth could help, it would also potentially bring more statis related issues. The simplest and most common solution is to use either a can of compressed air, or a special anti-static air blowing device, avoid using a vacuum or similar due to the risk of damaging your system. Compressed air and blowers do an excellent job at getting the small areas cleaned out of dust and debris.

Caring for your gaming PC is more than just keeping the physical components clean however, and keeping the digital portion clean is just as important. Data and how it’s stored is an incredibly complex and detailed topic and better left for another time, but for now we can focus on reformatting. Reformatting is the act of completely erasing a drive of all it’s data and reinstalling the OS (Operating System). Doing so might seem pointless, but despite the best of efforts it’s very easy for your system to become full of useless or half-functioning files and applications. Uninstall something? Chances are it’s left behind some files and data that you may never use again, and those files will inevitably get in the way of things like scans and processes in the background of your PC. Storage capacity will slowly be lost over time as the old files build up in the background. Reformatting is an easy task and for Windows Microsoft have a quick and simple guide here.

","id":"p0","sort_index":0,"type":"paragraph"}],"mid_image_path":"common-computer-care-mid.jpg","sid":"pc-parts-benchmark","small_image_path":"common-computer-care-small.jpg","sub_title":"CLX Computer Care & Cleaning Contingency, a mouthful to be sure and something we just completely made up.","title":"Common Computer Care"}
