Dubbed the “Caldera,” this tropical battleground looks like it will provide an entirely new kind of BR experience.

The map itself isn’t the only thing that’s different, however. Below we will dive into some of the specifics, including new weapons and sweeping balance changes. We will also take a look at how demanding Vanguard is from a performance standpoint and if this new version of Warzone warrants a components upgrade.

A Whole New Look For Warzone

Compared to other popular BRs such as Fortnite, PUBG, and Apex Legends, Warzone’s map hasn’t exactly changed much over the past couple of years. Perhaps the biggest change occurred earlier this year, as Verdansk was given an 80’s makeover, but by and large, the map was still the same in every significant way. While certain POI’s were changed up, and additions like the radar array altered rotations and made players think twice about standing out in the open in certain areas, the map itself remained static.

Needless to say, most of the playerbase is ready for a change. While the consensus is that Verdansk was a solid map, it has overstayed its welcome at this point. Whereas other BRs tend to get sweeping map changes every year or so, Warzone has felt stale due in part to the repetitiveness of the map itself. Even the best multiplayer maps will get boring after dropping into them thousands of times.

Caldera is Raven Software’s take on a South Pacific battleground, with lush jungles, beaches, ruins, and villages to explore. Compared to the mostly urban environs of Verdansk, this new map will force players to change how they move around and engage with the enemy.

Despite the colorful teaser images that were initially released, an early complaint claims that the new map looks “washed out” and dull. Whether this is a glitch or a feature remains to be seen, but much like the latest iterations of Verdansk, there does seem to be a lack of “pop” in terms of color vibrance. This isn’t necessarily a problem but can make spotting terrain features difficult when everything sort of blends together, plus it’s not exciting to look at either.

The actual layout and features of the map, however, show promise. The two maps are roughly the same size, but Caldera seems to have more variety in the actual biomes or areas to explore. The presence of more hilly terrain, however, means more opportunities for players to camp high ground positions, which could lead to more frustrating gameplay. New vehicles such as the Fighter Planes may be crucial in situations that would otherwise result in an unwinnable push up a steep mountain, at least in Vanguard Royale. In Warzone, players may have to be even more aware of their surroundings.

The community itself is somewhat divided over the new map, with some players happy with the changes, while others not so much. As the playerbase adjusts and gets more comfortable with the new locations, it will be interesting to see what the consensus will be a few months from now. Verdansk definitely had staying power, we’ll see if Caldera can match up.

Speaking of which…

With the release of Warzone: Pacific comes a change in the vehicles that are available on the map, depending on which game mode you are playing. For a good chunk of Warzone’s lifespan up to this point, vehicles have dominated the meta, with the “Big Bertha” armored transport trucks in solos and the helicopters in squads respectively.

Now, in Vanguard Royale, which is a Vanguard-centric BR that includes only Vanguard weapons and new biplanes, you can actually take to the skies and dogfight. Current consensus is that they are pretty OP, but what else can you expect from a flying vehicle in a BR that has an aim-locking machine gun? New anti-aircraft weaponry has been added to the game, but how effective it is against the planes remains to be determined.

Critical Balance Changes

Since the game’s release, the meta has been centralized around one item in particular: the Heartbeat Sensor. This piece of tactical equipment reveals the relative position of enemies every so many seconds, barring they don’t possess their Ghost class.

While there are items across most BR games that reveal the position of enemies in various ways, none are so meta-defining as the Heartbeat Sensor. Its reliability and unlimited uses means it is pretty much a part of everyone’s standard loadout, to the point where if you lack one, you are only making your life harder, or at least more expensive. You may be able to get by simply by relying on UAVs, but ultimately, the Sensor is the more practical option.

Well, it has finally been nerfed. Whereas before the Sensor pulsed every 3 seconds, it now reveals enemy positions nearby every 6 seconds instead. Such a difference in time is actually rather significant in a game as fast-paced as Warzone. It’s not so strong of a nerf that it renders the Sensor useless - in fact, it’s still an essential part of most loadouts - however, it’s a bit easier to defend against now if you act quickly.

Of course, UAVs have also been nerfed in a sense, as they now cost $6000, up from $4000 at buy stations. In general it would appear that this season’s gameplay will be somewhat less aggressive, with more of a tactical slant.

There are some other interesting changes that have been implemented in the game:

Stopping Power has been removed from the lootpool.

Dead Silence reduced drop rate.

Can now redeploy with weapons you have in the Gulag. The Gulag itself has also been changed.

Lethal equipment got buffs across the board. Claymores, thermites, molotovs, mines, and even common frags all deal increased damage.

Throwing knife damage increased from 200 to 250 on the torso and head.

Stun grenades have been nerfed significantly.

Stims now apply a speed / movement boost that lasts for a duration of 3 seconds.

A variety of other small tweaks and changes have been made to many of the pieces of equipment you can carry. As the season progresses we’ll have to see how these changes impact the meta, but initial gameplay definitely looks and feels different than in previous seasons.

New Weapons to Play With

It’s probably going to take a little getting used to, but the meta needed to be shaken up a bit. Warzone has always been dominated by the same few guns, and while these kinds of metas always form in battle royales, this is another area that was beginning to feel a little stale.

However, many of the Warzone staples are relied on for a reason. They feel good to use and are dependable. Many of the new guns (and there are many) feel clunky and inaccurate by comparison, at least without their upgrades. Warzone was long overdue for a complete overhaul in this regard and like most shooters, it’s only a matter of time before the good weapons find their way into everyone’s preferred loadouts.

Texture Bugs and Other Issues

As some players have been quick to point out, the launch of Season One has been plagued by graphical glitches. Most notably, mutant guns with texture issues that not only look hilarious but severely impact gameplay (how can you aim a gun that looks like a pile of polygonal goo?)

Players have been quick to point out that this isn’t Raven Software’s first rodeo, so such issues are inexcusable, but as is the industry standard these days, such things tend to get patched pretty quickly. How they make it past QA will forever remain a mystery, but they do seem to be tied to certain setups and are not universal across the board. Audio glitches have been reported as well.

Ricochet Anti-Cheat

Although the developers behind Warzone have seemingly attempted to tackle cheaters time and time again, they remain an issue. In fact, many long-time players of the game consider cheating to be the number 1 thing holding the game back from its full potential.

It’s true that compared to other popular BRs, cheating is rampant in Warzone. These mostly consist of aimbotters and wallhackers, which essentially destroy the competitiveness of the game, and simply make it un-fun. No one, from noobs to seasoned pros, wants to go up against someone who never misses or who can essentially lock onto you at all times. Positioning, stealth, and mechanical skill are some of the critical aspects of BRs like Warzone, that cheaters attempt to circumvent for cheap wins.

Ricochet is a new, in-house anti-cheat initiative that is supposedly going to help reduce the number of cheaters in Warzone. It is releasing first on SEA/SG servers and will eventually roll out across the world.

","id":"p0","sort_index":0,"type":"paragraph"},{"content":"

The Best Gaming Desktop For Warzone: Pacific

It’s obvious that the current state of Warzone doesn’t take kindly to older gaming rigs. If you are wondering what is the best gaming PC for Warzone, you’re going to want to focus on mid-tier to higher performance rigs if you really want to enjoy the game to its fullest.

It’s difficult to gauge at the start of a season if poor performance and glitches are due to components or if they are actual bugs that will be smoothed out in further updates. However, it is clear that Warzone is a detailed game that requires a certain level of investment when it comes to the gaming PC you are using. Lower-end machines are probably not going to cut it here, at least not if you want to play on the recommended settings.

If you love Warzone (ridiculous glitches and all) and want a PC that can keep up, we recommend taking a look at some of the gaming desktops we have available here at CLX. We specialize in luxury-quality gaming PCs that can handle just about anything you can throw at them, including Warzone on the highest settings. If you intend on gunning your way through the jungles of Caldera, one of our Ra gaming PC configurations might be what you’re looking for.

Equipped with industry-leading components and more than enough power, our Ra systems might be the best gaming desktops for titles like Warzone and similarly demanding games. When it comes to these kinds of titles, many of the graphical issues and other bugs that you may experience could be the result of lower-end components.
