However, their recent releases have not been stellar by any measurable or objective standard. We´d say that DOOM Eternal was incredibly fun, offered a satisfying gameplay experience, and kept us completely engaged… for 20 hours. After that, the fun quickly waned as the game extras didn't really offer anything we could not get elsewhere.

As for their other open-world releases, I´d rather not talk about the latest Fallout installments.

However, Bethesda still enjoys a considerably good reputation among their fans, so we´re able to forgive the fact that we won't be able to delve into the mysteries of The Elder Scrolls VI for at least 3 more years.

Nonetheless, many of us are in need of adventures of epic proportions that allow us to explore massive worlds filled with rich stories and lore. Fortunately, Bethesda has been working on an upcoming title that promises to be so massive it will span not only whole continents but many worlds across several solar systems.

What Is Starfield?

Starfield is a project that was revealed in 2018, creating a halo of mystery around it and keeping everyone outside the studio in the dark. Its creators recently promised that the game was going to be Skyrim but in space. That alone sent the gaming community into an uncontrolled frenzy as everyone wants to know more about the setting, the lore, the characters, races, skill tree, and even all the customization options that will be available for players.

What we know about Starfield

This year, Bethesda finally set a release date for Starfield. The game will become available on November 11, 2022, but will only be released for Xbox and PC (sorry console peasants). Nah, just kidding. The PS5 is set to become even more robust in the near future with incredible AAA titles coming up this year, and Bethesda has explained they have never considered leaving their Sony fans behind. It seems the Xbox-only release might only be temporary.

Todd Howard, director and executive producer at Bethesda and directly responsible for the success of The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, said Starfield will continue down the path of more recent titles in terms of character customization. This has worked well in many releases such as Cyberpunk 2077 where many of us spent hours crafting the character until we got exactly what we wanted. Elden Rings also followed this trend, offering unmatched customization options that many players have taken to hilarious extremes on Reddit.

It seems Starfield will provide even more powerful customization options as they will include aliens and robots into the mix, making the game even more interesting. I can't wait to see what the community will come up with.

Backgrounds are also back and, according to Howard, they will have noticeable effects on how your character´s story unfolds.

Ashley Cheng, Bethesda Managing Director, confirmed that Starfield will also feature a completely interactive world. Our character will be able to interact with thousands of objects and manipulate them from a first-person perspective, enhancing immersiveness. For gamers who like to wonder if their characters can execute certain actions or if the game will allow them to give objects creative uses, they will be surprised to learn that the Starfield will say “yes” a lot to all of their crazy ideas.

According to recent interviews with the dev team, it seems Starfield will refrain from putting your character down a railroaded path. Instead, it will provide plenty of incentives to just explore and experiment.

In terms of graphics, the game trailer looks extremely clean and detailed. What surprised us the most is that the whole trailer was made with in-game assets, which means that the whole game will potentially look amazing. However, there are concerns about the quality of the engine itself. According to a source who claims to have worked at Bethesda as part of the dev team, the game engine is really holding things down, and flight does not feel right yet. This is, of course, something that usually only affects the developer´s side and does not mean the final product will be unplayable. However, gamers today are growing wary of games being rushed without being properly optimized.

And, well, we all know what that means: we will need powerful machines to make sure the game runs smoothly and delivers the intended atmosphere. We don´t think you will want anything lower than an Intel Core i7-5820K or an AMD Ryzen 5 2600. In terms of graphics, many speculate that you should go for either a GeForce RTX 3070 or a Radeon RX 6800. Storage-wise, the source indicated that there is an overabundance of content, so be ready to go beyond the 100GB mark.

I recommend jumping into our proprietary gaming desktop builder so you can start building your gaming PC before Starfield hits the shelves. There are rumors of a planned Beta next summer and you will not want to miss any of the fun. Besides, that's the best way to be sure you have enough power to enjoy the game the way the devs intended.
"}],"id":"_enjps3716","mid_image_path":"starfield-mid.jpg","sid":"pc-gaming-esports-news","small_image_path":"starfield-small.jpg","sub_title":"Ten years ago, Bethesda amazed its fans with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.","title":"Starfield: What We Know So Far"}
