This sci-fi shooter / RPG hybrid takes elements from popular games such as <em>Far Cry</em>, <em>Destiny</em>, and <em>Gears of War</em> and synthesizes them into a fast-paced, action-stuffed, and surprisingly story-rich romp through the uncharted world of Enoch.</p><p><br></p><p><br data-mce-bogus='1'></p><p>Square Enix’s brand new entry is not without its bumps in the road, however. The launch phase of this game has been controversial, to say the least, as the developers have had to contend with pleasing various factions of the fanbase all at once, with mixed results. This has led to what some consider to be a ruined product before it has even had the chance to grow wings.</p><p><br></p><p><br data-mce-bogus='1'></p><p>For those of you who are interested in an overview of <em>Outriders</em> and what to expect out of this new shooter, you’re in the right place. Not only will we dig into the latest balance changes and other issues surrounding the game, but we will also offer some information on our <strong>CLX Set</strong> gaming computer that might be the perfect fit if you’re thinking about trying this game out on PC.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus='1'></p><p><br data-mce-bogus='1'></p><h2>The Core Premise of <em>Outriders</em><em></em><em></em></h2><p><em><br data-mce-bogus='1'></em></p><p>The overarching story behind <em>Outriders</em> is a fresh twist on a familiar theme: humankind escaping from a resource-ravaged Earth in the not too distant future. One of the only promising candidates is a world known as Epoch. Without diving too deeply into the meat of the story, it suffices to say that things go awry and it is up to you to figure out what’s going on and save the day.</p><p><br></p><p>The gameplay of <em>Outriders</em> pairs nicely with the storyline: third-person shooter action with RPG elements such as classes and a leveling system. <em>Outriders</em> also features a unique difficulty scaling element known as the World Tier system, which allows you to dynamically shift the difficulty of the game as you go along, in exchange for the possibility of facing harder enemies and receiving better loot.</p><p><br></p><p>Unlike many current “live service” games, it is worth noting that <em>Outriders</em> is a classic-style PVE experience and does not require loot boxes, subscriptions, special currencies, or any kind of additional money in order to gain competitive advantages or to get all of the best loot. In that respect, it is a lot like <em>Borderlands</em> and similar titles that go against the grain of the current subscription-based games and PVP-heavy titles we are used to seeing.</p><p><br></p><p>At a glance, there is a lot to love about Square-Enix’s new shooter. Tight, fast-paced gameplay. Beautiful graphics. An engaging story with seemingly memorable characters.</p><p><br></p><p>The devil’s in the details, however, and it would seem as though the main issue at present rests in how the game feels, the progression, and the balancing.</p><p><br data-mce-bogus='1'></p><h2>Painful Glitches and Questionable Decisions</h2><p><br data-mce-bogus='1'></p><p>Despite all of the clear reasons why you would want to pick this game up, especially on PC, the last couple of weeks have been a rollercoaster for the <em>Outriders</em> community. What began as a relatively smooth ride quickly dissolved into dev-induced chaos, with questionable balance changes and one very specific glitch that has left the current state of the game up in the air.</p><p><br></p><p>Depending on the nature of a glitch, they can either be amusing, annoying, entirely inconsequential, or devastating. Currently, <em>Outriders</em> is dealing with a nasty <a href='https://www.reddit.com/r/outriders/comments/moelv8/inventory_wipe_gather_thread/' data-mce-href='https://www.reddit.com/r/outriders/comments/moelv8/inventory_wipe_gather_thread/'>inventory wipe glitch</a> that is essentially a game ruiner.</p><p><br></p><p>While it may not seem all that painful to have your inventory vanish, the problem is that in a game like <em>Outriders</em>, where everything revolves around loot, to have your inventory wiped basically turns your save into a blank slate. The bulk of your progression is gone, and along with it, all of the specific decisions that have made your playthrough unique and worthwhile.</p><p><br></p><p>This alone would be enough to throw the community into an uproar, but the glitch was introduced alongside a patch that included various nerfs that many in the community consider uncalled for. Since this is a PVE title, the community was less concerned about certain classes, weapons, or abilities being overpowered and more focused on making smaller tweaks to specific elements where needed. Instead of doing this, the devs seemed to nerf a lot of what made the game feel organic and fun, especially for solo players.</p><p><br></p><p>Since <em>Outriders</em> is a multiplayer PVE co-op-style game, the devs are balancing it in such a fashion. However, there is already a strong contingent of players who prefer the solo experience and who are not on board with the balance changes.</p><p><br></p><p>These issues, along with other problems such as server instability at launch and major cross-play problems, have left the community a bit stunned.
