However, Halo Infinite’s multiplayer mode has somewhat bucked this trend, offering Halo fans something tasty to chew on in anticipation of the game’s full release on December 8th.

The Return of the Arena-Style Shooter King

It’s hard to believe that the original Halo: Combat Evolved is a whopping 20 years old. By gaming industry standards, it’s downright vintage. For many gamers, this title sparked a love affair for shooters that would endure for decades. And while many games over the years would try to recapture the gameplay and atmosphere of the first Halo, few have managed to do so with fidelity. Most fans of the series agree, there’s nothing quite like Halo.

Which is why the release of Halo Infinite has many gamers talking. Compared to other games in the genre, Halo has always felt unique, offering mechanics that go beyond simply trying to be overly realistic, in favor of combat that is at once fast-paced and skill-based, but also exciting and strategic.

After years of waiting, Halo is back and seemingly bigger than ever. With the release of a free-to-play multiplayer game in lieu of a full-scale campaign next month, the popular franchise is once again back in the spotlight.

Is Halo Multiplayer Worth Downloading? Here’s Our Take

Just because a game is free-to-play doesn’t necessarily mean you should immediately go and download it just for the sake of it. Do the multiplayer modes and maps offered in the new Halo title actually merit space on our already crowded hard drives?

Undeniably, 343 Industries have put together a great multiplayer experience here. Right from the outset we see lush graphics, intriguing map designs, smooth animations, and nice attention to detail. Most important for both long-time fans of the series and newcomers, is that the game actually feels like Halo. No strange new mechanics or a different style of gameplay here - just the same old core gameplay that made the franchise the hit that it is.

While there are only a select few modes to play and maps to play on, what has been delivered is a solid product. It’s hard to call the multiplayer a full-fledged game on its own, what is there serves as a great appetizer for what’s to come. It’s also worth noting that the available game modes are satisfying and are certainly worth playing.

A total of ten maps have been released off the bat for Halo Infinite, 3 of which are solely for the Big Team Battle mode.

High-Power (Big Team Battle)

Fragmentation (Big Team Battle)

Deadlock (Big Team Battle)

Streets

Recharge

Bazaar

Behemoth

Aquarius

Launch Site

Live-Fire

The community response to the maps has been positive, with only a few minor complaints. They seem carefully laid out and fun to play, which is the heart of any arena shooter format or game. The arenas themselves can make or break this kind of game, and it looks like 343 Industries nailed it.

Battle Pass Gripes

If there was one glaring issue with the release of Halo Infinite’s multiplayer offering is the Battle Pass.

These days, most (if not all) free-to-play shooters and battle royales have some form of a paid subscription model that offers a variety of cosmetics and other bonuses that can be unlocked through completing challenges or by occurring XP of some kind. There have been several great examples of what a worthwhile battle pass should look like over the past few years, and several examples of what not to do (grindy, low-quality rewards, etc).

When the game first launched, Halo Infinite’s battle pass definitely fell on the grindy end of the spectrum, with some players going so far as to complain on Twitter and Reddit to the developers themselves. In fact, for some the BP was a dealbreaker and a turn off from what was otherwise a great experience. While one would think that such a thing shouldn’t matter, it’s a fact of the gaming industry now that players hold battle passes in high regard. It’s not just about the perks and cosmetics that are offered, but about playing for the feeling of progression in an environment where there would ordinarily be none.

In multiplayer games like Halo, winning a round is the ultimate goal of course. But for many players, this is only a periphery target. For instance, many players who excel at the game will quickly get bored of winning just for the sake of winning. It’s satisfying, but they may want something more. Likewise for lower-skilled players who just can’t seem to get a dub on a regular basis, a battle pass offers a different way to experience the game. Instead of having to always come out on top at the end of every match, there are other goals to strive toward.

Like it or not, battle passes have become sort of an integral part of the multiplayer landscape, which means that they have to be executed properly in order to resonate with the playerbase. What’s great about this instance is that the developers have been quick to respond to player feedback and already announced that they would be making the BP less grindy and fairer for lesser skilled players. Having tackled that singular issue, the game seems to be on the right track leading up to the full release.

How Does Halo Infinite Run?

As with most modern multiplayer shooters, you’re not going to want to skimp on the specs of your gaming PC if you intend on playing this title extensively. Halo Infinite’s multiplayer mode has had a relatively smooth launch, but some astute gamers are pointing out that it isn’t the most optimized game in the world. This is not the kind of title that you want to try and play on an outdated gaming PC, otherwise you’re simply not going to get the full experience.

","id":"p0","sort_index":0,"type":"paragraph"},{"alt":"CLX Gaming PC","content":"clx-gaming-pc.jpg","id":"img1","sort_index":1,"type":"image"},{"content":"

While the game doesn’t run bad, it is on the taxing end of the spectrum, so if shooters are your thing or if you are really looking forward to Halo Infinite specifically, investing in a high-performance rig should go without saying.

This is the best time of the year to invest in quality PC gaming computers anyway, as so many hot titles are dropping. In case you have been living under a rock, Q4 of 2021 is shaping up to be quite a time for PC gamers, and with more anticipated titles dropping at the start of 2022, it just makes sense to invest in the right hardware.

If you have been sticking with the same old gaming PC for several years now, you may have recently noticed some degraded performance, as the industry has entered a new generation. Halo Infinite, while not as demanding as a game like Battlefield, for instance, will still tax older machines. The recommended specs to run this game are definitely on the beefy side, with the i7-9700K getting the nod, along with a chunky 16 GB of RAM, which is quickly becoming the standard. You’re also going to want to have an updated graphics card, something like an AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT or Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 or better.

Here at CLX, you will notice that high-performance PC gaming rigs are our specialty. We encourage you to look around at some of our pre-configured PCs to see which will best suit your gaming needs. We also offer an incredibly fine degree of customization, which means you are sure to walk away with a computer that truly meets your needs. If you plan on picking up Halo this holiday season, or are an FPS diehard and have noticed the performance on your favorite titles has been slipping, it’s the perfect time to get a more reliable gaming rig.
","id":"p2","sort_index":2,"type":"paragraph"}],"mid_image_path":"halo-infinite-multiplayer-mid.jpg","sid":"pc-gaming-esports-news","small_image_path":"halo-infinite-multiplayer-small.jpg","sub_title":"A Surprisingly Smooth Arrival For One of This Year’s Most Anticipated Gems","title":"Halo Infinite Multiplayer Indicates Good Things to Come"}
