As many developers used the event to showcase some of their holiday offerings, it’s clear that we have a lot to look forward to as 2021 comes to a close.

While there was no shortage of games to talk about (and speculate on), we’ve narrowed down the selection to a few of the more promising ones. These are games that hype has been building around for months, and with imminent release dates, now’s the time to jump onto the bandwagon if you haven’t already done so. In case you don’t have a gaming PC that’s up to the task of handling these games, we’ll also dive into some of the benefits of getting one custom made with an online PC builder at the end as well.

Elden Ring: Dark Souls, But Bigger?

FromSoftware hasn’t deviated from its successful formula all that much over the years. Ever since the breakout success of Dark Souls, the developer has used this game as a template to spawn a variety of other well-received titles. To say nothing of the countless clones that have been created, as other developers and studios have tried their hand at capitalizing on what is now a genre unto itself.

Though we remain in the dark on many areas of this new entry in the Dark Souls line, what we have seen is incredibly promising. The big draw or unique twist that Elden Ring seems to be offering over its predecessors is a more open experience. Comparisons have been made with action games like Breath of the Wild, and though these two titles may have very little in common, the comparison works.

Although the previous Dark Souls games had their fair share of winding interconnected paths that made exploration satisfying, there was a decidedly linear feel to many areas. After all, for the most part in these games you were confined to musty caves and dungeons. When you did have a chance to come up for air, you were still confined by the level design. It’s true that the Souls series is often praised for its level design above all else, the game’s action-adventure mechanics lend themselves to open-world exploration.

Elden Ring’s horror-fantasy world is even getting a map, according to information that came out over the weekend. This is a far cry from the other Souls-style games, which forced players to have to memorize the different locations and simply become familiar with each area manually. That maps are being added may be an indication that Elden Ring is on a completely different scale, which only adds to the potential this title has for being one of the best to usher in 2022.

Halo Infinite: A Classic Reborn

Long-anticipated, Halo Infinite got a good chunk of the spotlight at Gamescom 2021. Slated for a December release, fans of the series (and of FPS games in general) are on the edge of their seats as more news comes out about the game.

On the surface, we kind of know what we are getting with Halo Infinite, or at least what we can expect: solid FPS gameplay in a richly detailed sci-fi world. Both the multiplayer component and the campaign are being released together, but we know very little about the campaign side of the game at this point.

However, this isn’t stopping the hype train one bit. Already, a new Halo pro scene is taking shape around this game and has eSports teams salivating. It remains to be seen what the campaign will offer in terms of value and replayability, but it looks at this point like the Halo legacy is going to be faithfully represented in this new entry. The fact that it is dropping just in time for the holidays is also a plus. Expect this one to be difficult to get your hands on if you don’t preorder it soon.

Dying Light 2: A New Survival Horror Romp

Who doesn’t love a good zombie game? After the resounding success of the first Dying Light game way back in 2015, a sequel was almost a certainty. Originally announced back in 2018, the second entry in the survival horror series is finally dropping this December (a day before Halo, in fact), and recent trailers show a game that is beautifully rendered and quite polished.

Specifically, the gameplay footage released at Gamescom over the weekend has fans more excited than ever over the prospect of diving back into the world of Dying Light. Satisfying melee action that is being called gritty and visceral, along with an immersive world and interactive story, is all helping to propel this game to must-have status.

Why Using a PC Builder is a Must This Holiday Season

Gamescom 2021 was full of surprises and closer looks at some of the best games coming out later this year, but one thing that stood out based on the trailers and teasers was that the next generation of gaming is not playing around when it comes to graphic fidelity and fast-paced action.

Games like Halo Infinite, which are going to support full-scale eSports ecosystems, are going to need to be played on high-performance gaming PCs that are designed specifically to deliver superior quality. To achieve this degree of quality, a custom PC builder is going to be something you will want to consider.

If you are really getting into PC gaming but your current rig isn’t equipped with “next gen” components, it’s going to be hard to run some of these newer titles, especially on their best settings. Depending on the kind of gaming experience you are looking for, this could be a real issue.

","id":"p0","sort_index":0,"type":"paragraph"},{"alt":"clx-gaming-pc","content":"clx-gaming-pc.jpg","id":"img1","sort_index":1,"type":"image"},{"content":"

Whether it’s maxed-out frames during a bout of Halo Infinite multiplayer or getting immersed into the atmosphere while playing a game like Elden Ring, you need a custom gaming PC that has the right specs and that is designed for the games you want to play.

The best way to get a gaming PC that actually meets your needs is to get one put together with the help of a quality online PC builder such as the one you will find here at CLX.
