Here’s Our First Look"},"active":true,"show_in_home":true,"show_as_recent":false,"show_as_popular":false,"_id":"6172ecc790cb60eb91d7168e","aid":"farcry6","article_image_alt":"Far Cry 6","big_image_path":"farcry6-big.jpg","date":"10/22/2021","elements":[{"id":"p0","sort_index":0,"type":"paragraph","content":"
Especially if it all happens in glorious 4k at 144 frames per second on a totally silent CLX gaming PC. If you have been anticipating the latest installment of the Far Cry franchise and are wondering if it lives up to the hype, we have just what you’re looking for right here. We’ll take a look at some of the highlights, and also see if you got what it takes to enjoy the game at its fullest.

Far Cry 6 is the latest Ubisoft release of the franchise after a two-year hiatus, and let me tell you: it comes through with flying colors. But let´s get into it.

As usual, the game puts you in the shoes of a highly trained one-person-army adventurer, who gets wrapped up in a fight against a despot, while trying to stay alive in a dangerous open-world scenario. Nothing out of what we have come to expect from the two-decades-old franchise.

However, this time we get to explore a massive South American-based setting in order to dispatch an excellently cast ruthless dictator who seems to have been a bit too long in power and does not have the best interest of his people in mind.

As in most other entries of the Far Cry series, the plot will never go down as the stuff of legends, but it will certainly be enough to get you interested in exploring the gorgeous Caribbean setting and finishing off hundreds of baddies with gusto. A few minutes of exposition is all it takes to get you to really hate the antagonist Anton Castillo, played by Giancarlo Esposito, an actor we love to hate ever since he tried to harm Baby Yoda in the Mandalorian. However, the more cut scenes you watch, the more you get to understand his motivations, and I think that Esposito´s talent really brings a lot to the table during the game, but I won't spoil it for you.

Despite the heavy-handed social and political context portrayed by the game, Far Cry 6 manages to balance it with humor and light-hearted NPC interactions throughout the story. I got really strong Tropico vibes when interacting with some of the NPCs as the jokes were on point without feeling out of place, condescending or derogatory at all. You'll probably even catch yourself tapping your feet along with the in-game radio music.

So, let's get to the important part.

Can you play Far Cry 6 on your current gaming rig?

When it comes to graphics and overall performance, this new installment is simply breathtaking, period. More than once, I found myself staring at the sunset or just gliding around the island aimlessly for the sake of it, and there is a lot of that in this game. Even when you're blowing stuff up you can't help but notice how much attention to detail the developers put into this game in terms of physics and animations. But this game can exert a lot of stress on your rig, even if it meets the minimum requirements.

If you want to run the game without being bothered with frame rate drops or stuttering, you need at least 3GB VRAM to run Far Cry 6 on low settings with the HD textures turned off. However, you will be doing yourself a disservice if you can´t get a consistent 60FPS on HD settings.

Now, we know you want to play this game with the graphics set pedal to the metal without having any stuttering problems. That means you need to go over 11GB VRAM. We found that the Radeon RX 5600M can handle the highest settings and still achieve the 60 FPS at 1440p with ease, which is fantastic. But you know you need the full Far Cry experience in 4k.

If you feel you can use some additional juice to game, you can get a qualified AMD-powered desktop with this title thrown in for good measure, and enjoy an additional 16% boost on in-game performance. This exclusive offer includes an amazing in-game AMD Radeon baseball cap and AMD Ryzen tee.

Now, when pumping up your frame rate closer to the 144 FPS mark, you will want to turn all the auto-aim features off, all of it: aim assist, auto-lock… make it all go away. You don't need any of that since the game dishes out extreme responsiveness, allowing you to aim freely and truly become one with your gun. Remember: frames win games.

Far Cry is so tight and fluent that delivering those headshots feels incredibly satisfying. Emptying a magazine into your enemies never sounded so good, and even the melee attacks feel crunchy and very well timed. You won't believe how fluid and smooth the gameplay is. However, the game demands a lot in the resource department, so make sure you gear up.

Will Far Cry 6 Revolutionize The Franchise?

There are people out there complaining that Ubisoft has become too formulaic and that they didn't bring anything new to the table.

Well, I don´t think those who wanted a new Far Cry iteration were expecting the franchise to steer too far away from the elements we have come to love since the days of Jack Carver. In fact, Far Cry 6 feels like they're going full circle on this one with the tropical setting, and all the over-the-top action scenes that made players fall in love with the series.

Nonetheless, this installment did bring some improvements. The gameplay feels extremely tight, giving the player an increased sense of control and freedom. And we have to thank Ubisoft for ditching out the infamous abduction mechanic that caused so much grief among players a few years ago.

In terms of navigation, the Cubanesque island is excellently fleshed out, with thousands of things to do per square mile. Side quests, treasure hunts, and tons of different and beautiful scenarios to explore. Taking down headquarters never feels repetitive given the different setups and the tools and gadgets you have at your disposal. There is even a full city to explore, which was completely unthinkable for the franchise, but feels like a breath of in-game fresh air after hours of beach-jungle hopping.

The weapon system is also very well-thought-out. You can customize your guns, level them up, or just find cool new things that go boom that make you want to try them right away. It never becomes a looter shooter gun fest like Borderlands, but it does offer a welcome variety that keeps the game fresh for the 20-30 hours of playthrough (YMMV).

In the AI department, you might find it is a bit uneven. Animal companions or rescued prisoners sometimes behave like lemmings, while the enemy AI manages to be real crack shots most of the time. Ubisoft is known for giving their game a fair amount of support, so we expect them to polish these details out in the upcoming weeks.

A great gaming PC might be necessary when trying this game out. You need to try it at its highest settings since there will be a lot of aerial action. There is a vehicle called the Avispa Buzzer (A boat-helicopter-hovercraft mash-up) that will certainly become your favorite means of transportation for cruising the island or taking down ground-to-air turrets. You will want to keep that frame rate up and the highest resolution for a fluid gaming experience and crisp and breathtaking visuals as far as the eye can see.

After close to 10 hours into the PC version of the game, I can tell you confidently that it has been an absolute blast. If you are a fan of the franchise, everything in this game will blow your socks off. And, since Far Cry games are loosely related to each other, playing past titles is not a requirement, so there is a lot in it too for newcomers as well.

If you´re a Far Cry fan, or if you like open-world FPS games with tons of things to do to keep you entertained for months, do yourself a favor: it’s worth investing in a totally customized gaming PC from CLX in order to get the best Far Cry 6 experience.
"}],"id":"_p43s6kqe9","mid_image_path":"farcry6-mid.jpg","sid":"pc-gaming-esports-news","small_image_path":"farcry6-small.jpg","sub_title":"Are you ready to topple another evil leader in some remote area of the world?
